Short summary
What role does science play in European policy-making? What are the main challenges and institutional models at the science policy interface in Europe How can the European Union support science policy in Member States
This short session will introduce these topics followed by an open discussion on the relationship between science and policy in Europe
Speakers
Elena Giglia is Head of the Open Access Project Unit at the University of Turin She is active in national and international Open Science working groups and participates in several Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects She contributed to the Italian Ministry of University and Research committee that prepared the National Open Science Plan She was also a member of the ANVUR working group Open Access and new indicators She regularly takes part in national and international conferences on Open Science and is active in training and outreach activities
Alessandro Allegra is a researcher and policy expert in science policy focused on the interface between science policy and society in Europe with a special interest in scientific advice to policy making. He currently works at the European Commission Directorate General for Research and Innovation and is Honorary Lecturer at University College London Department of Science Technology Engineering and Public Policy
He has experience in science policy at UK European and international level having worked at UNESCO the Royal Society of London the Royal Society of Biology in the United Kingdom, and the European Commission Scientific Advice Mechanism He holds a PhD in Science Technology and Society from University College London and was a Fulbright Schuman Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School
