Short summary
Contemporary science communication involves a wide range of actors with different motivations. It addresses diverse and active audiences, develops within a constantly changing media environment, faces important social challenges, and intersects with political processes and cultural dynamics. Recognising and understanding this complexity is essential for effective and responsible science communication.
Speakers
Elena Giglia is moderator and Head of the Open Access Project Unit at the University of Turin. She is active in national and international Open Science working groups and participates in several Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects. She contributed to the Italian Ministry of University and Research committee that prepared the National Open Science Plan. She was also a member of the ANVUR working group Open Access and new indicators. She regularly participates in national and international conferences on Open Science and is active in training and outreach activities.
Nico Pitrelli is a science writer, trainer in science communication and event organiser. He holds a PhD and is Director of the Master in Science Communication “Franco Prattico” at SISSA, International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste. He is also Head of Communication at the same institution and was Communication Manager of the EuroScience Open Forum ESOF 2020 in Trieste. His recent publications include Il giornalismo scientifico (Carocci, 2021) and Manifesto per un’educazione civica alla scienza (with Mariachiara Tallacchini, Codice, 2023).
