Overview
What does “openness” really mean for an international scientific organisation like CERN? It is not just about providing open access to publications and data, but also about a strategic value that enables knowledge to remain reliable, reusable and useful over time.
Enrica Porcari, CERN’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), will explore this value through the concept of “Responsible Knowledge Stewardship”, addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and drawing on CERN’s experience as a global centre for open scientific collaboration.
Speakers
Elena Giglia (moderator) is Head of the Open Access Project Unit at the University of Turin. She is actively involved in national and international Open Science working groups and is a partner in several Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe projects.
At the Italian Ministry of University and Research, she served on the committee responsible for drafting the forthcoming National Plan for Open Science. She was also a member of ANVUR’s Open Access and New Indicators working group (2013–2014).
She regularly participates in national and international conferences on various aspects of Open Science, including research assessment, and is actively involved in training, information and outreach activities in these areas.
Enrica Porcari (speaker) has been Chief Information Officer at CERN since January 2026, becoming the first person to hold this newly created position. She leads CERN’s digital strategy, which encompasses artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and Open Science.
Her 30 years of experience in digital transformation across the scientific and humanitarian sectors include serving as CIO at the World Food Programme and CGIAR, before joining CERN in 2021.
Target audience
This webinar is designed for the Italian community and is aimed at researchers, research support staff, technicians and technologists interested in Open Science and FAIR principles.
